Hi, I’m Annabel Holland, Assistant Winemaker at First Creek Wines in the beautiful Hunter Valley.
I am lucky to work in an amazing destination that is the Hunter and also do something that makes me happy! I love wine. What’s not to love! When I see a glass of wine I see more than the liquid in front of me. This is because I have chosen the path to learn and understand the art of making and assessing wine.
Hola from the Hunter Valley! No, not the Hunter Valley of Santa Fe, New Mexico. This is, in fact, the Hunter Valley of New South Wales. As we made our way up the drive of Casa La Vina we half expected the Three Amigos to be facing down El Guapo’s men in the bell tower. But this place is anything but Western schtick. I can honestly say this is the best accommodation I’ve ever stayed.
Every year, in hundreds of wine regions throughout the world, over a thousand different grape varieties are made into millions of individual wines. Each of these wines express a unique combination of flavours, impacted by a myriad of factors such as grape variety, climate, vintage variation, winemaking techniques and blending options. All of this means that there is virtually a limitless variety of tastes to experience.
